You're probably wondering why we've played East Club so many times…It all started when our vocalist Iina saw an ad about a band contest and dragged the ad to our rehearsal space. We decided to take part in the contest after very little philosophizing. At first we performed to the club audience alone, after which we went through to our semi-final group along with two other bands. We then won our semi-final and advanced to the final with three other bands, of which only two could make their appearance…Unfortunately we finished second, which we're happy about, but still, it sort of left a bad taste in the mouth. We'll keep on rockin'!!
Our first demo was recorded in the fall of 2006 and consists of three tracks from our earliest production. Our second demo was recorded in early winter same year. After this we decided to put all of these tracks out for free distribution through our website. In April 2007 yet another demo was recorded - this time with a little more carefulness and precise, with record labels in mind. This demo is going to be sold in a limited edition of 100 pieces. It will probably also eventually come into free distribution, unless record labels show us their interest. Only time will tell! We hope for the best.
HISTORY:
ERWIN PRESTON was originally established in January 2005. The founding members were Jukka Kiviranta (guitar), Toni Espo (bass), Markku Kämäräinen (vocals) and Toni Lempinen (drums). None of the band members really had any musical background. It was really just weekend playing for fun. The first rehearsal space was a cafeteria at an old ski centre, where it was really cold in the winters. At first, the road to the top of the hill wasn't even ploughed and the band had to walk through knee-deep snow in the winter cold. The band thought it was fun! For sure!
After a year of playing, Juha Tolvanen joined the group as a keyboardist. That same spring, the rehearsal space changed to a more decent alternative and also, the band got a new vocalist from Iina Kojonen. Not long after this, the drummer changed to Jaani Starck and guitarist Otto Kaalikoski joined the band.
The first gig was 8.7.2006 at RAVINTOLA RUUKINMYLLY and it was followed by a gig at RAVINTOLA LAIVA WÄISKI 22.7. By this, the band had gathered a long enough set from their own material and a few covers. The direction was right, so they kept on marching. That fall the band went to the studio to record their first demo experiments. In the winter, they took part in a BAND CHALLENGE organized by East Club, in which they came second. New demos were also recorded at the same time. That New Year's Eve the band did a gig at SKYLAB in HOTEL ZILTON; this can also become a tradition…Gigs have been played after this and shows are being booked all the time. During the Easter of 2007, the band recorded a demo that will be going out to record labels. Clips from the record are available on the site.
